Replacing Default Antennas With Higher Gain Antennas
Your wireless LAN devices such as access points and remote routers are equipped with external antennas for signal transmission and reception. These antennas have a certain Gain, providing an operation range determined by their manufacturers. Many manufactures equip their wireless devices with removable external antennas, allowing you to replace them with higher Gain antennas in case you wish to expand the operation range of your wireless network.
To replace an antenna of a wireless device with a higher Gain antenna, you can (1) remove the old one and mount the new one directly on the device, or (2) place the new antenna away from the wireless device in an exposed open space through an antenna extension cable for better signal transmission/reception.
Outdoor Installation
The D-Link antenna cable kits provide the extension cables necessary to install an antenna away from a wireless device.
